Where are the uniforms located? They could be anywhere in the country. MarchingLinks.com lists the uniforms for sale and when payment is made by the buyer, we instruct the seller to ship. MarchingLinks.com does not usually handle the uniforms directly.

Why is it so expensive to ship uniforms? You probably know the answer to this already: they are very heavy and bulky. Shipping charges can run from $100 for a small set to over $1,000 for a large set. Price also depends on where you are in relation to the seller, how fast you want the uniforms to get to you, whether the set includes hats, which, although relatively light, are very bulky, the choice of shipper, etc.

How long does it take to complete a transaction? A customer may pay via check (5 business days to clear), a cashiers check (no clearing restrictions) or PayPal (also no clearing restrictions, but does incur a 2.7% fee that PayPal charges us). As soon as payment clears, we instruct the sellers to ship. It may still take up to a week for the seller to package and ship the uniforms.

How long does it take to receive my uniforms? Shipping times vary according to the distance between buyer and seller, but generally takes about 3 to 5 business days for freight, which is usually the cheapest option for heavy sets of uniforms. Expedited shipping can usually be arranged with the seller, but will of course be more expensive.

What does +/- mean in the item description? With large sets, it’s difficult to get an exact count for every item and so we list most lots as +/-. You will receive a lot that is close to that amount, perhaps a bit more, perhaps a bit less.

Seller Questions

How long does it take to post an ad? Once you’ve submitted the ad, it will be posted within a week - sometimes sooner.

Why should we send a photo with someone wearing the uniform? Uniforms that are pictured on a model tend to sell faster than uniforms shown on a hanger or draped over a couch. We want to sell your uniforms as fast as possible, and we bet you do too!

What is the price to list an ad? There is no initial price to list an ad. We will list as much text and as many photos as you feel necessary to properly represent your item. MarchingLinks.com does take a 33% commission upon sale of the item. This commission is deducted before the sale funds are forwarded to the seller.

How should I price our old marching band uniforms? Asking price depends on popularity of color and style, condition of the uniforms, size of the entire set and how fast you want to sell the uniforms. Typical prices per uniform run from $15 to $30, which you then multiply by the number of uniforms in your lot. If you have an odd number of pants versus jackets, take the lower number as the number of full sets and then list the "extras" included in the sale. You may want to put a price on the extras or just throw them in as a bonus. If you have some pieces that are in poor condition, you may want to also exclude them from the full uniform count, but include them as a bonus item to be used for parts.

Does another school actually want to buy our used uniforms? Yes, yes, yes!!! It may be an old set of uniforms to your band, but to another band, it’s the opportunity to get out of jeans and t-shirts and into a real band uniform. Please don’t throw out your band uniforms! Give them a new life at another school and return much-needed funds to your own band program.

We want to donate our band uniforms, rather than sell them. Can we do that at MarchingLinks.com? Yes, we can list uniforms to be donated rather than sold, but we do charge a fee to the buyer as it takes the same amount of effort to list, market and ensure a secure transaction for a donation as it does for a regular sale. How long does it take to sell a set of uniforms? It depends. A sale could take a month or it could take over a year. It all depends on the color, style, condition, number, price and who is looking at the ad.

Why do we need a release from our band director, principal or superintendent to sell our uniforms? We want to make sure that the uniforms are being lawfully offered for sale and we ensure this by requiring a release from your band director, principal or superintendent sent from the school email domain.

What sells best? Blue, red, white and black are the most popular colors and sell the most quickly. Uniforms that have little or no identifying marks also sell faster than those with mascots or words prominently displayed. Traditional military styles sell well, as do modern drum corps-style uniforms. But please don’t let this limit your listing. We once sold a set of black and turquoise marching band uniforms that we never thought would go. They sold in less than a month. And a set of old fashioned tunic style uniforms also sold quite quickly. It just takes the right band looking at the right time and we offer the best exposure to make that match as quickly as possible.
